Phishing Attack 11/18

November 18th, 2009

York College has recently been targeted by “phishing” attacks attempting to acquire your personal information. The most recent example claims to be from the “Email Support Team” at York College. Phishing emails profess to be from a legitimate source such as York College or a bank, in reality they are used for such purposes as identity theft or to steal legitimate computer accounts to be used as sources of additional phishing attacks or spam.

If YCP IT discovers that you have responded to a phishing email, in any manner, your account will be locked and you will need to contact the IT Help Desk in order to have you account reactivated. Your account can only be reactivated in person or by sending new account information to your postal address of record.

Please note the following important information: Neither the Help Desk nor any other IT Personnel will ever ask you for your password. If we need access to your account, we will ask you to login for us or use some administrative means to gain access. Never reveal your password to anyone in any format. If you have any questions or concerns, the IT Help Desk can be contacted by email to: ithelp@ycp.edu or phone at x1559 (717-815-1559).
